Everything you need to know about emissions testing, state regulations, and ensuring a smooth certification process.
General Inspection
How long does a smog check usually take? expand_more
At Bobby's Smog, a standard inspection typically takes between 15 to 25 minutes depending on the vehicle type and year. Directed STAR inspections may take slightly longer due to additional state-required procedures.
What should I bring to my smog check? expand_more
Please bring your DMV Renewal Notice or current registration paperwork. If you are performing a Title Transfer or Out-of-State registration, bring any ownership documents you have available.
Technical & Failures
What if my car fails the test? expand_more
If your vehicle fails, we provide a detailed computer-generated report explaining the failure point (Visual, Emissions, or Functional). You must have the vehicle repaired by a licensed repair technician and re-tested.
Can a smog check turn off my check engine light? expand_more
No. Smog check centers are diagnostic and certification facilities. We cannot clear codes or turn off dashboard lights. In fact, if your light was recently cleared and the computer hasn't completed its self-tests, the vehicle will result in a \"Not Ready\" status and fail.
